Laminate

Laminate flooring otherwise known as MDF and nowadays HDF (Heavy Density Fibreboard) has seen enormous popularity over the last ten to fifteen years in many different qualities and designs.

We have seen a vast improvement from the very first laminate floor manufactured by the Swedish brand ‘Pergo’ which mainly comprised of a chipboard core topped with a printed photograph of a wood or tile looking floor which resembled the real thing, very soon many other manufacturers followed.

The advantages of owning a laminate floor were and still are that they are easy to clean with longevity with less dust particles than a carpet so a major advantage for asthma sufferers or people with breathing difficulties. A disadvantage for the product is and always has been that it is unsuitable for wet areas such as Bathrooms.

By the mid-nineties it wasn’t long before the ‘big sheds’ such as B&Q and Homebase had ‘cottened’ on to the trend and were buying and selling laminate flooring by the pallet load to the DIY customer who had no knowledge of installing laminate flooring often without the correct tools. This in turn led to hundreds of thousands of homes across the uk with a floor that looked ‘cheap’ and was often ‘unfinished’ for various reasons.

Unfortunately the word ‘laminate flooring’ has been unable to loose it’s association of being labelled ‘cheap’ due to the DIY market, however, there has always been a demand for a quality laminate floor by manufacturer’s such as ‘Quick-Step’ and ‘Pergo’ by customers who desire a better quality product and want it installed professionally.

Laminate flooring by ‘Pergo’ is in our opinion the market leader due to their experience in manufacturing with features such as textured surfaces, bevelled edges, innovative designs with the best guarantee on the market.
We do deal with other manufacturers such as ‘Quick-Step’ and ‘Parador’ on request with sampling in store.
